The holiday season is fantastic for so many reasons. Not only do we participate in celebrations and festivities, but we also spend time with the ones we love. Our schedules through the end of 2022 will become increasingly full. It can be easy to forget another important aspect of putting a close to 2022, year-end giving. Here is a quick guide to help.
1. Come up with a plan and write it down
Grab your favorite notepad or open the notes app on your phone. Write important dates, goals, and thoughts as you think through your blessing. We must receive your donation before the new year to count for 2022 tax reasons. So sending a check by mail would likely have to be done before Christmas, regardless of the date on the check.
2. Determine your giving amount
Work with your financial advisor to develop a plan, and pray about the right amount to give. If you are age 70 1/2 or older, consider leveraging your QCD. More info can be found here.
3. Write down a list of charities or causes
There are hundreds of worthy charities for you to invest in. Don’t miss out on giving to causes that matter to you. Make a list and research the right ministries for your gifts.
4. Make it a family event
You can meet with your partner and show your family’s values with one voice. Involving your children is a great way to teach them the principles of charity, thinking through your actions, and putting ideals into action.
