Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Ephesians 6:10 (ESV)
DEVOTION
STRENGTH: the quality or state of being strong : capacity for exertion or endurance. From a worldly perspective, strength is something to be achieved. You work hard to build muscle or you keep denying that piece of cake no matter how bad you want it. Whatever it is, the world says keep trying to be strong on your own. If you can’t be strong, then you’ve failed yourself and everyone else.
Imagine how many times an addict has tried to be strong. Imagine how many times they wanted to stop, but just couldn’t. As program participants begin to walk out their recovery, they learn recovery is not something they can do on their own. To truly be free from the chains of addiction, they must first surrender themselves to God and, then, allow Him to give them the strength they never had before.
PRAYER
Lord, it is through your strength alone that I am an overcomer. May every man and woman at The Foundry this month become wholly dependent on your strength. May their striving to be strong in their own way cease and may your strength take control. May your strength become the mighty power within them to live free today and everyday. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
