Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
James 5:13-15 (ESV)
DEVOTION
Behind the 400 men and women who call The Foundry home each day are 400 stories of hurt, heartache, and rejection. Somewhere in each story, you will find a turning point where choices were made to attempt to mask those pains, leading to numerous decisions which carried them down a path of self-destruction.
Throughout their time in our program, they walk through the process of healing from the pain and destruction of their lives. Healing from deep devastating wounds takes time. It takes prayer. It takes faith.
We are reminded by the beautiful passage from James that, as believers in Jesus Christ, we have the privilege of walking others through healing with our prayers and our faith. Those in our programs are infants in their faith and, more often than not, need to see the confidence of faithful believers that God sees them, He hears their prayers, and He will answer those prayers according to His will.
PRAYER
Thank you, Father, for giving your children the privilege of calling on Your Name on behalf of others. May you give us the sensitivity this month to pray for healing. Let our confidence and faith be a conduit of your healing power for the broken and hurting.
