Be Not Afraid – The Power of Hope and Kindness
“But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.” Genesis 50:19-21
Joseph’s comforting message to his brothers is an anchor scripture for me. Like Joseph, I have experienced the pain and confusion of betrayal from people I loved and trusted. And, like Joseph, God has softened my heart towards these same people and blessed me in ways I could not have imagined. Through it all, I was supported by God’s Word through scripture. Through it all, I never lost hope.
Amanda Gorman is an American poet who also understands the power of hope. Like Joseph, she reassures us with words of kindness.
Hope
By: Amanda Gorman, Call Us What We Carry
“We lay down our arms
So we can reach out our arms
To one another.
We seek harm to none and harmony for all.
Let the globe, if nothing else, say this is true:
That even as we grieved, we grew
That even as we hurt, we hoped
That even as we tired, we tried”.
Don’t be afraid.
