Year Theme: Elevate

But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors. Deuteronomy 6:23

The story of Moses is one of ins and outs. He fled out of his home after killing a slavemaster and returned to Egypt to confront Pharaoh. He led the Jewish people out of Egypt, into the promised land. “Are you in or out?” That is a question Moses heard often from God.

Being in or out is directional, like up and down. The first step of walking with Jesus is moving away (out) from our sinful nature. Our immediate next step should be to move toward (in) Him and His purpose.

Moving toward God requires us to move away from things not of God; Out to go in.

Humble yourself, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 Peter 5:6

Our theme verse this year is 1 Peter 5:6. The focus is on this idea of lifting; moving us up to God. He is looking for the opportunity to move us to His will, lifting us away from our past selves and toward a better future.

We begin 2020 with an idea in mind. Let’s elevate everything we are involved with, increasing the quality and quantity of our work.

Let’s elevate our spiritual lives. We want to hear from God, and for those ideas to move us out of complacency and into action.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
