Faithfulness

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3:3-4

Devotion

Great is Thy Faithfulness is one of my favorite hymns. When I hear the tune and the words begin to play, my heart immediately connects to The Father. No matter what I’m doing, the simple words of that song send me to my secret place with the Lord. The place where the entire world fades away and only myself and my Father are left. The kindness of the words remind me of the Truth.

Thomas Chisholm penned this poem in 1925 as adoration to God’s faithfulness in his everyday life. Toward the end of his life, he explained “My income has not been large at any time due to impaired health in the earlier years which has followed me on until now.  Although I must not fail to record here the unfailing faithfulness of a covenant-keeping God and that He has given me many wonderful displays of His providing care, for which I am filled with astonishing gratefulness.”

Chisholm knew the importance of carrying the loving faithfulness of God with him at every moment. Solomon also knew the value of this lesson. Wisdom and knowledge are worth little if we fail to hold tight to the truth of who God is. Solomon not only tells us to never let love and faithfulness leave us, but he instructs us to let them be written on the tablet of our hearts; to let them in ingrained in every fiber of our being.

Prayer

Thank you, Father, that you are faithful even when we are not. We pray those served through The Foundry would have hearts focused on your unfailing faithfulness. May they be drawn to your Son by your great love. Let them not forget the greatness of who you are and the depths of your understanding. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
