Salt & Light

I am committed to Jesus’ commandment in Matthew 5:13-16 (The Message):

“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”

Jesus didn’t say that He needed a few people to bring out the “God-flavors” and the “God-colors” in the world. He needs all of us! At The Foundry we say to the hurting and un-deserved, “Come join us. Our hearts are open to you and we welcome you with love.”

Our Recovery and Re-Entry program participants receive “God-colors” through a variety of classes and small groups led by staff members and volunteers who generously share God’s Word in a nurturing environment. A service of our Rescue program is our Mobile Food Pantry, which travels through the food deserts in our community to show “God-flavors” by delivering meals to the elderly and weekend snack packs to elementary school children. At Changed Lives Christian Center homeless men who were once hopeless become “light-bearers” and share the good news of the love of Christ for all of His children.

Great God of the universe, thank you for creating me to “spice” up your world. I pray that my light shines for all to see! Amen
