Most of us have experienced at least one moment in our lives when we were not sure where we belonged. Maybe you have experienced this when you began a new job, moved into a new neighborhood, or joined a different small group. You worked hard to navigate the unspoken rules of the new areas you’ve stepped into, but you still felt like the odd man out.
Or maybe you haven’t started anything new lately, but still feel as if you don’t know where you belong. You search for a place to fit, a place to call your own, and a place that welcomes you in, but you continue to come up short.
Lacking a sense of belonging is an odd feeling and it can sometimes seem as if you will not ever move past that place. There is hope, though! In Christ, we can take heart in knowing that God had a different plan for us from the beginning. We first and foremost find our belonging in Him. God calls us His. We are His children, His dearly beloved, His chosen ones. In Him, we find true acceptance and love.
Prayer:
Father, as we enter into this new year and new decade, may we rest in the truth that our belonging is ultimately found in You. We are yours and yours alone. May the men and women calling The Foundry home right now know and live this truth. Thank you, Father, for choosing us.
