One in four children struggle with hunger every day. This doesn’t change during the summer, in fact, it may worsen. Children receiving free or reduced lunch during the school year are guaranteed breakfast and lunch each school day. But, once summer begins the opportunity to eat those meals greatly reduces. Without the guarantee of school meals, summer can be one of the hungriest times for children living with food insecurity.
Throughout the school year, The Foundry Ministries provides weekend snack bags to 250 local students who struggle with food insecurity. This summer, The Foundry is helping to combat childhood hunger among those children, as well as others living in the communities we serve. Food bags will be sent out each week filled with easy-to-eat foods for children in these communities. Not only will their families be receiving produce and other pantry staples through Patti, our Mobile Produce Pantry, but the children will also be receiving food to ensure their bodies receive the nutrients needed to thrive.
