Hunter: Fifty Stories for Fifty Years
I was an opiate addict for thirteen years and an IV heroin user for four of those years. I was caught up in the cycle of addiction and thought I’d never get out of it. For twelve of those years, I was a functioning addict.
The year before I arrived at The Foundry, I lost all hope for life and became a full-time addict. I couldn’t see a way out, and my only focus was on getting high.
I was trying to fill a void that only God could fill.
I was on the verge of sleeping in the streets with nothing to my name. In addition to this, I had felony charges across the state of Alabama. It was time to change.
When I got to The Foundry, it immediately felt like home to me. I thought, “this is where I’m supposed to be.” I dug into everything they had to offer. That void in my life was starting to be filled as I surrendered myself fully to the Lord. The weight was off.
I took advantage of Pastor Mark Winslet’s teaching in discipleship, my Freedom Group, and the Genesis Process. I developed an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and began walking in freedom and victory every day. I got real with myself and found healing from the internal wounds that drove me to use in the first place.
Leaving The Foundry, I went to the Change Lives Christian Center, and God started to move. He opened up doors that allowed me to buy a car debt-free and move into my own place, furnishing it completely.
